Neurofeedback is brain fitness exercise.
You are rewarded when your brain shifts toward more appropriate and stable brain states. Changing your brain waves helps you to gain better control over your brain states in your daily life.
Neurofeedback can also be a powerful adjunct to psychotherapy. For some, the potential for personal growth is greatly expanded as the brain calms.
Neurofeedback is training in self-regulation. Good self-regulation is necessary for optimal brain function.
Self-regulation training enhances the function of the central nervous system and thereby improves mental performance, emotional control and physiological stability.
Neurofeedback training can help you with...
Individuals of any age can benefit from Neurofeedback training.
Neurofeedback can help anyone maintain good brain function for anyone as they age.
Peak performers also use Neurofeedback training to enhance their abilities in sports, business and the arts.
Sensors are attached to your scalp with a water-soluble paste, which then reads brain waves. It is painless and does not involve the application of any voltage or current to the brain. It is entrirely non-invasive.
A computer processes the brain waves and extracts certain information from them. You are shown the the ebb and flow of your brain waves in the form of a video game. You are instructed on how to play the video game using only your brain waves (everyone can do it).
Simply by detecting the brain going off track through the EEG (electroencephalogram- an instrument that measures brain wave activity), you can train your brain toward enhanced stability and improved functioning.
With successful Neurofeedback training medications targeting brain function may no longer be needed or they may be needed at lower dosages, as the brain takes over the role of regulating itself. It is important for clients to communicate with their prescribing physician about these changes.
For over 25 years EEGs have been used in research and therapy settings to help train people to change patterns of brain waves. Only recently have advances in computer technology made it widely available in private office settings.
